Our Beliefs

As a religious group, we have an obligation to clearly define our understandings and “gut hunches” about what we trust God is doing in human life, in the church, and in the world. The following attitudes and understandings are fundamental to our identity as Zion Lutheran Church.

As a religious group, we have an obligation to clearly define our understandings and “gut hunches” about what we trust God is doing in human life, in the church, and in the world. The following attitudes and understandings are fundamental to our identity as Zion Lutheran Church.

FAITH

Our faith in a God of compassionate love gives us hope. This faith does not give us answers. This faith gives us direction – points us in a certain way.
We come to this faith not on our own but by baptism into a faith community that trusts the work of the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the graciousness of God.

HOPE

In the face of a world that shatters the hopes and dreams of so many, the church is a place where hope can be found, claimed, and grown. Jesus came that we might have life – abundant life. We believe that life includes dignity, compassion, justice, courage, and wisely using the resources we have been given. Knowing that, we step forward trusting that hope will not disappoint us.

LOVE

God’s purpose is love. God’s purpose is amazing. God’s purpose is forgiveness – not doing us or our enemies in, but rather restoring us to full, joyful relationship with God and others.
As a church we embrace people of other faiths, including those who are Jewish and Muslim. We work together with them and with people of many different Christian traditions to serve the neighbor in need. Christians from the Catholic tradition are closely related to us and we cherish our renewed relationship with them as Christians walking together the way of Jesus.
